Neurocore Offers Patients with Depression Hope Without the Need for Meication
The human brain is often said to be the most complex organ in our bodies. Unlike our skeletal and muscular systems, which scientists developed a basic understanding of several hundred years ago or more, much of what we know about the brain has been learned in the last 100 years.
The brain which is the origin of all of our thoughts, ideas, conduct, feelings, and how we perceive the world around us, is constructed of billions of neurons which conduct electricity to various regions of the brain based on chemical signals. These neurons enable us to process complicated data and formulate thoughts among other things.

Our understanding of how the brain works have been made possible primarily due to advancements in technology that have made it possible to view changes that occur in the brain when certain actions are taken. These advancements have led to the development of new tools such as neurofeedback brain mapping and quantitative electroencephalogram. The EEG is a test that measures brain activity by using small disks, which are attached to the scalp, typical with glue or other non-invasive means, to measure the electrical activity of the brain. Advances in computer technology have allowed scientists to combine the results of numerous EEGs for people of similar age and gender to develop brain maps.
Using the information we have learned from brain mapping clinicians and scientists at Boca Raton, Florida, based Neurocore have begun to treat patients based on neurofeedback. Neurofeedback is a means of retraining the brain to self-regulate the desired behavior based on the results of electrical measurements of brain activity. To put it simply, Neurocore utilizes practice and positive reinforcement to get a patient’s brain to operate in the desired manner.

By utilizing neurofeedback Neurocore is able to offer their patients a way to treat depression without the use of medication. Patients can reduce the intensity of the symptoms with many patients overcoming depression completely. The results are quite positive for many of those who complete Neurocore’s 30 session program, of the 292 patients, 84 percent had a noticeable decrease in symptoms and 51 percent of patients no longer met the requirements to be diagnosed with depression.
By utilizing brain mapping, quantitative EEG technology, and neurofeedback, Neurocore, is changing the way depression is treated and offering patients the hope for a brighter future.
