Betsy DeVos has been serving the American people for many years and has focused most of her energy on repairing the nation’s broken educational system. She attended Calvin College and earned her Bachelor of Arts in business economics during her time there. She also became very interested in politics during her college years, and this prompted her to serve as the chairman of the Michigan Republican Party for six years. She has also been a part of various political action committees and groups that serve the educational sector.
Betsy DeVos is happy with the progress that the educational choice movement has made over the last three decades. That is when the first private-school voucher program began in the states, and this took place in Milwaukee. Every year, there are thousands of new students who are able to attend a school that their family approves of. Within the last decade, many new states have created or expanded educational choice programs. Some of these states include Ohio, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.
Betsy DeVos has also been glad that more people are becoming aware of the failing public school system in the United States. She believes that this has helped the educational choice movement to grow more rapidly. DeVos has maintained that Florida is one of the best examples of how school choice programs can work for the greater good. The state has been offering tax-credit scholarship programs that have helped thousands of students. According to DeVos, if more states followed Florida’s example, it would be easier to keep educational choice initiatives in place.
Betsy DeVos became the secretary of education for the U.S. in 2017, and she immediately began to work towards improving the nation’s school system as soon as she did. She joined Melania Trump and Queen Rania of Jordan to pay a visit to a charter school in Washington D.C. She also appeared with the rapper Pitbull at a charter school he built in Florida. This took many people by surprise because Pitbull is notorious for his dirty rap songs. This demonstrates her willingness to work with people who have different points of view in order to build a stronger school system in the U.S.A.
Betsy DeVos was born in the state of Michigan and has been working to improve the state and its educational system for many years. She has done so through philanthropy and by being a part of efforts to change the state’s laws. DeVos has donated a lot of her own money to educational causes and the arts and culture in the state. Some of the beneficiaries of her giving have included Northwood University in Midland, Detroit Charter School Company New Urban Learning, and Compass College of Cinematic Arts in Grand Rapids.
