Such Sweet Lines

Stacked lines peeling.

Saturday May 17, 2008

Whoever is in charge of north west ground swell decided to send an out of season blast our way last weekend. It was time to catch your waves and count your blessings. The middle of May is not when we expect to see this sort of activity, but everyone with whom I spoke was way stoked.

Early morning ride.

Overhead section.

Long line going right.

Long board on a long wave.

No Milking

The Kove was the place for this session, although every spot up and down the coast of Santa Cruz County saw some action too. But the swell angle, tide level, and height and period were optimal for special K's. The lines were long, and peeling the entire way. On the right wave you could go for hundreds of yards, and not just by milking it through mushy sections.

Such a sweet line.

Another in a long list of long waves.

Late drop.

Mark cutting.

Images

Many other surfers came to join me on this clear sunny Saturday morning. Mark was in the water, and in many of these photos. In fact, this column is short on words, but long on pictures. Sometimes the stoke communicates best with images of waveriders doing their thing.

From behind the rocks.

Showing the logo.

Spash down.

Big reentry.

Hoot

Enjoy the pics; it could be flat very soon again, and it could stay that way for a long time. At least we had this past weekend to stretch the paddle muscles, rip some walls, and hoot each others rides.

Digging that long line.

Flying.

Setting up.

Lean back.

CU Out There,
